About Shelter For Change

Shelter For Change

Shelter for Change is a family operated non-profit organization that was founded by Chris and Karen Raahauge two very caring people who have firsthand experience with substance abuse and the devastation it inflicts on families. Chris and Karen also own and operate Teamwork Recovery Services, a successful corporation that assists medically insured alcoholics and addicts into substance abuse treatment.

An overwhelming amount of calls to Teamwork Recovery Services were from people with no insurance…desperate for treatment, desperate for help, and desperate for a chance to change. Chris and Karen knew something had to be done to get these people the help they needed. Shelter for Change was started just for that reason.

Although there are some State and County funded programs, most of them have a 30 to 60 day wait list for admission. Waiting 30 to 60 days can be a death sentence for those in dire need of help. Approximately 14.5 million adults aged 26 or older struggled with substance abuse in 2015 alone. Heroin addiction among young adults between 18 and 25 years old has doubled in the past 10 years. Over 100 people die every day from drug overdoses. This rate has tripled in the past 20 years.

Shelter for Change believes that anyone asking and needing help with addiction deserves it, insured or uninsured. With dedication and hard work SFC is creating a movement to save as many lives as possible. Shelter for Change has a network of like minded empathetic people, business owners and facilities making it possible to help the ones who want and need treatment but cannot afford it. This is all done through donations, scholarships and strong relationships with a community of caring people.

SFC assists each individual client by providing shelter through the treatment process of their addictions. For continued success in recovery our clients are offered a room in a ‘Transitional Living’ home where they can continue to live life free of drugs and alcohol and in a safe environment. Once a client has completed treatment and has a foundation of recovery SFC offers avenues for education and employment to help insure a lifetime full of success.
